A temporary residence permit (TRP) legalises a foreigner's long stay in Kazakhstan for a specific purpose — work, study, business or family. It is often a mandatory step before the residence permit.
When you need it
If you stay in the country longer than the period allowed by a visa or the visa-free regime and you have a ground (employment, study, family reunification, business immigration). The TRP is arranged for a ground and is tied to it.
How to obtain it — the stages
- Determining the ground.
- Gathering documents.
- Filing with the internal affairs bodies (the police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs) / via the Public Service Center (TsON).
- Fingerprinting registration.
- Receiving the TRP.
The host party files a notification of stay via vmp.gov.kz or eQonaq.kz.
What to keep in mind
- A TRP is not cancelled upon leaving the country (under the updated regulations).
- Breaching the deadlines and grounds leads to problems with extension and with the subsequent residence permit.
- For an employment ground, the employer must have arranged the permit documents (foreign workforce permit).
