Relocation usually follows a clear chain: entry → registration → TRP → residence permit. Understanding the whole map saves months and nerves.
Entry
Visa-free regime (for citizens of ~50 countries — up to 30 days, no more than 90 days in total within 180) or a purpose-specific visa. The visa category determines what you may do: a business visa does not allow paid employment.
Registration / notification
The host party notifies the migration service via vmp.gov.kz or eQonaq.kz; notification is also required when changing city or address.
TRP → residence permit
The temporary residence permit (TRP) legalises a long stay tied to a specific ground, while the residence permit grants permanent residence. Many grounds require proof of income, certificates and legalised documents.
Where a foreigner should start
- Do not breach registration and stay deadlines.
- Choose a visa strictly according to your purpose.
- Prepare translations and legalisation in advance.
- When taking up employment, check the employer's permit documents.
