Residence permit in the Republic of Kazakhstan
Until 31 December 2026 a permanent residence permit is issued under a pilot procedure: language test, points-based assessment, interview and a year of residence in a settlement region. Certain categories of applicants are exempt — that is checked first, because the grounds determine whether the full or the shortened procedure applies.

Interview and admission notice
Online or in person. The admission notice is valid for one year and is attached to the service-centre package.
Residence in a settlement region
At least one year of lawful residence and 12 months of continuous employment or business. Regions: Akmola (except Kosshy, Arshaly and Tselinograd districts), East Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, Abai, Ulytau. Not required if exempt.

I am married to a Kazakhstan citizen. Do I need the test and the region?
With a marriage of at least one year exemptions apply; we confirm their exact scope for your category before starting — practice on this point is being clarified.
How much money must be shown?
1,320 MCI (5,709,000 ₸ in 2026) in a Kazakhstan bank account in the applicant's name — per family member over 16. The statement must be no older than 180 days.
I am from a visa-free country — which visa do I need?
A B8 visa is issued in Kazakhstan after the documents are filed; citizens of visa countries get B8 at a Kazakhstan consulate, where the interview also takes place.
How long does it take?
Without exemptions: test, questionnaire and checks — up to two months, then a year in the region, then 45 days at the service centre and up to 15 business days for the card. With an exemption — straight to the service-centre package.
